As PFCC I always put our communities, urban and rural, at the heart of my priorities for both Police and Fire services. Since 2016 I have invested in
- 330 additional police officers. The most Police officers Northamptonshire has ever had
- Increased Police Visibility by doubling the number Neighbourhood police officers with more to come
- Committed to maintaining our Police Numbers and increase if possible
- Residential burglary down by 28.8%
- Vehicle crime down by 39.2%
- Shoplifting down by 27.3%
- Created a Rural Crime team
- Significant investment in ANPR cameras which last year led to over 900 arrests and over 1500 vehicle seizures
- Dedicated Police Dog team
- Additional Firefighters and appliances
- Combined, fit for purpose buildings for Police and Fire, maximising investment for the front line
- Local Victims service to support all victims and witnesses of crime
- Youth Services, Domestic Abuse and mental health support services
- Additional Firefighters
- 8 New Fire engines and an additional new aerial appliance with 4 more on the way
I have also
- Negotiated £5m additional funding for Fire service
- Introduced community grants and sponsored PCSO schemes
- Supported Public Health, NHS and EMAS during the pandemic
- Reduced office costs
- Secured £17 million additional grant funding for community safety, early intervention and young people
- Key achievements recognised nationally by HMICFRS
- Secured Government commitment to funding review.
Much has been achieved but there is more to do. I have clear plans to make Northamptonshire EVEN safer.
I intend to
- Reach record levels of police officers and firefighters by 2023 - 330 extra police officers and 32 additional firefighters
- Build on significant reductions in domestic burglary and increase focus on robbery, vehicle crime, crime prevention, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping
- Reduce harm from domestic abuse and sexual violence by pursuing perpetrators, supporting victims and increasing rehabilitation and prevention programmes
- Target gangs, reduce child and sexual exploitation, slavery and trafficking through increased detection and more support to victims
- Increase neighbourhood policing with named local officers in all rural and urban communities
- Continue to improve Fire response times and build on home safety prevention work
