From the Derby Evening Telegraph 31st July
2008:-
PLANS to delay the building of a £1.2m library
have met with anger and disappointment.
Nancy Wawman, chairwoman of Friends of
Chaddesden Park, said: I'm disgusted. We've
been expecting it for quite some time.
It just makes me sick. I'm really angry.
I'm hoping our group will write to the council.
I'm very good at writing strongly worded
letters.
The library is currently in a small building on
the edge of Chaddesden Park and is in need of
repair.
Liberal Democrat councillor Joe Naitta, cabinet
member for leisure and culture, said a decision
on building the library was expected shortly.
I've been out to have a look at the library and
obviously it's in need of repair but we have to
review spending across all of our projects.
Dennis Knowles is one of 52 people who have
written, calling for a new library building.
Mr Knowles, 77, of Rayner Drive, Chaddesden,
said: It's a shame. I really feel it should be
rebuilt, especially for the younger people.
It's important that school children have the
opportunity to go to the library and don't have
to use one that is so run-down.
Lesley Green, 88, of Malton Place, Chaddesden,
has used the library for 20 years and said: I
go there every month. The building is getting a
bit run-down so we could do with a new one.
